Our central goal is to teach users how to develop Web sites that are highly functional and attractive. The theme is the integration of programming with artistic design. One Web integrates information and artistic design aspects with technological and programming contents to show how ideas and designs can be implemented and what design space the available technologies provide.
The spirit and key factor of the success of the internet is its openness. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is a non-profit organisation leading the way for developing open web standards. These include:
XHTML; The standard HTML markup
CSS; The standard for controlling HTML style
JavaScript; Standard client side scripting
DHTML; Combines JavaScript, CSS and dom for Dynamic content.
HTTP; Hypertext Transfer Protocol used by the Web
CGI; Common Gateway Interface for servers to interact with external programs.
One Web acknowledges these languages/ standards and covers many of them. More importantly however, we show how they combine to enable serious Web development in practice. We give realistic examples to illustrate techniques that are applicable in many situations.
From simple code through to advanced CSS, you will uncover skills and techniques you never thought were possible.
Welcome to the One Web World!
